Butter Gravy With Onions And Mushroom Ingredients

Onion Gravy Ingredients:

2 ounce shallot, peeled and chopped coarsely (you should have about ½ cup chopped shallot)
¾ cup mushrooms, exotic (cremini, shiitake or oyster)
7 ounce chicken broth, reduced sodium and reduced fat (to make this recipe vegetarian you may use vegetable broth or water)
1/8 cup all purpose flour
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
½ teaspoon fresh oregano, snipped or 1/8 teaspoon dried marjoram or oregano
A dash of freshly ground black pepper
Non-stick cooking spray

Method:

  1. Lightly coat a nonstick sauce pan with a nonstick cooking spray. Preheat the pan, stir in shallots and cook over medium heat for about 5 to 6 minutes or until they turn tender and get a golden brown color.
  2. Add mushrooms to the shallots and cook for more 4 to 5 minutes.
  3. Stir the all purpose flour and half the amount of chicken broth together in the saucepan.
  4. Add balsamic vinegar, dried herbs (if using) and remaining chicken broth to the sauce pan and cook the mixture on medium to high heat until it gets thick and bubbly. Stir occasionally. Lower the heat and cook and stir for one more minute.
  5. Stir in fresh herbs, if you are using any at this stage. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper as per taste. Serve the gravy along with turkey. This recipe makes 5 servings.
