Asian Marinated Flank Steak Recipes

Steak Marinade Ingredients:

1/3 flank steak, lean
2 teaspoon green onions, minced
½ teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon orange juice
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon vinegar, rice wine
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 table spoon water
1/8 teaspoon corn starch

Method:

  1. Diagonally score the steak pieces into ¾ inch. In a shallow dish combine a tablespoon of oil along with a table spoon of orange juice, honey, soy sauce, vinegar, ginger, garlic, and green onions. Add steak and mix well. Cover the dish with a plastic wrap and leave it in the refrigerator for 8-10 hours. Turn occasionally once or twice.
  2. Remove steak from the marinade before cooking and reserve the remaining marinade. Grill steak over high heat covering the grill lid for 6 to 7 minutes on each side or till the juices from the steak run out. After the steak is cooked to the desired level remove the steak from heat and leave aside in a serving plate.
  3. In a small bowl combine corn starch with water to get a smooth paste.
  4. Boil the reserved watery marinade in a sauce pan over medium heat. As the marinade decreases to one-third in quantity add the corn starch and water mixture in it. Also stir in the remaining oil and orange juice. Boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. As the marinade and corn starch mixture gets little thick, approximately after 2 minutes remove from heat. Spoon the hot mixture over the steak and sever hot. This recipe serves 2.

Health tip:

  • You may use dry sherry or apple juice instead of orange juice if you desire.
  • Trim all the visible fat from the steak and use only lean steak as far as possible. Red steak and other red meats provide ample of fats along with proteins. The fat is mainly in the form of cholesterol and saturated fats in red parts of any meat which should be avoided for good health.
  • You may use a re-sealable plastic bag to combine all the spices and steak. Plastic bag can be a convenient and neat option as the recipe demands occasional turning of the steak pieces.
  • If you want to cut down the fat content of this recipe you may choose to switch the cooking mode from grilling to broiling. For this, cook the steak along with the marinade in a broiling pan.
