People who have stomach ulcers do not always have to monitor their diet and can eat whatever they want without having any problems. However some people have extremely intense symptoms with burning feeling in the stomach after eating and intense abdominal pain. This might be because certain foods irritate the ulcers and aggravate the symptoms such as secretion of gastric acid leading to gastric irritation, heart burn and abdominal pain. There are thus certain dietary guidelines, which if followed, help to reduce the intensity of the symptoms.
Diet To Cure Ulcers And Ulcer Remedy For Treating Ulcers
The main objectives of the diet for ulcers are to provide nutrition to the body, minimize gastric secretions and reduce the chemical irritation of the ulcers. In order to achieve this, the diet should be modified in a way as to push up the energy levels by providing the essential nutrients, increasing protein intake which is necessary for energy as well as tissue repair, increasing intake of fats which keep the stomach full for a longer period and prevent the acids from irritating the ulcers on the stomach lining and increasing intake of carbohydrates, vitamins and other essential minerals needed to improve the immunity and increase energy.
The main dietary modification suggested to ulcer patients is cutting down on the size of meals, by increasing the number of meals per day. It is recommended to eat 4 to 5 small meals a day instead of 3 large meals. You should also chew slowly so that the food is well masticated and easier to digest. Easily digestible fats found in whole milk, egg yolks and dairy products such as cream and butter should be consumed regularly to reduce the time taken to empty the stomach and leave it free for the acids to irritate the ulcers.
You should also eat plenty of food rich in fiber content in order to aid better and smoother digestion of food. On the other hand, spicy, greasy and fried foods should be avoided since they are difficult to digest and they can aggravate the symptoms further. Alcohol, caffeine found in coffee, tea and carbonated beverages should also be avoided. Foods recommended during the first two stages of ulcers include milk and fruit juices, milk products such as curd, custards, mild cheeses, and green tea, in addition to refined cereals and their products.
In the third stage when symptoms are more intense, food cooked soft in mild preparation, raw vegetables and fruits and soft cooked eggs are recommended to reduce the symptoms. However since each individual has different reactions to different foods and varying tolerance levels, it is suggested that you consult a doctor before you make any modifications to your diet.
