Gout is a condition or a medical disorder which is caused due to a rise in the levels of uric acid in the body. It is an inflammatory reaction caused by the formation of monosodium urate monohydrate crystals in the body. Uric acid is the by product present in the blood which is ideally released by the kidneys and expelled from the body via urine. In the case of gout this uric acid is deposited in the joints of the body rather than being flushed out by the kidneys thus causing a kind of arthritis. In some cases uric deposits are also observed under the skin as well as in the kidneys and urinary tract. One of the common symptoms of gout is the swelling that is commonly found in the feet, wrists, hands, knees and elbows. This swelling or inflammation may also be accompanied with pain. There are some natural home remedies to treat gout such as squeezing h the juice of half a lemon into a glass of water and drinking this liquid at least 2-3 times a day. Lemon is a rich source of vitamin C and is known to be effective in dissolving the gouty deposits. Similarly a natural treatment for gout as well as kidney stones would be to drink plenty of fluids, especially clean drinking water. Another excellent home remedy for gout would be to extract half a cup of French bean juice and drink this once on a daily basis. For those suffering from pain associated with the inflammation and swelling, rubbing some ice on the affected area will provide immediate and instant relief.
Fruits for Gout
Fruits like cherries, apples and strawberries are known to be very helpful in treating gout as they are rich in various minerals like iron, manganese, magnesium, zinc and thereby reduce the level of uric acid. Including 3-4 bananas in ones daily diet is also an effective home remedy for treating gout as it is rich in minerals like phosphorus which reacts with the uric deposits thereby eliminating them. Gout can also be handled effectively by increasing the consumption of foods that are rich in Vitamin C such as green leafy vegetables and citrus fruits like tomatoes, berries etc.
Foods Causing Gout
Similarly foods that are high in purines such as shell fish, crabs, offal meats like, heart, kidney and cocoa should be avoided as excessive intake of purine rich food can lead to gout.
