Foods that Promote Good Eyesight in Kids

As with any of our 5 senses, good eyesight plays a very important role in the way we live our lives on a day to day basis. Good eyesight is so important that most of us are completely unable to even imagine living a life without decent vision – making complete blindness something that most of us will completely dread. It is important to remember that there are a number of factors that influence the deterioration of an individual’s eyesight. Hereditary is one of the most common causes of bad eyesight, so if you are aware of the problem running down the generations of your bloodline, it is important to do your best to make sure that it affects your child only to a minimal level, if at all. Straining to read fine print or to properly identify a small object in the distance is sometimes part of an individual’s daily life – however, this places a lot of stress on the eyes – causing a significant deterioration of vision.


Given the fact that a number of our job profiles nowadays require constantly looking at a computer screen or television, it is important that you afford your eyes some amount of rest as the consequences of not doing so include a significant loss of vision – which often leads to the requirement of vision aids such as spectacles or contact lenses.  

While there are a number of methods that you could choose from when looking to improve your eyesight such as surgery and the assistance of vision aids, the right kind of nutrition can also help improve the eyesight substantially. Salmon, for example, along with its very beneficial omega 3 fatty acid content, is very rich in vitamins A and D – making it one of the most beneficial food sources when dealing with the improvement of one’s vision.


Eggs, in any form, are another very good food source to improve vision because of their lutein, zinc, and essential fatty acid content. Not many people are aware of the fact that garlic and its rich sulfur content also help improve an individual’s vision significantly although the consumption of carrots is widely known to be able to boost a person’s vision. A number of leafy vegetables such as broccoli, spinach and kale are high in lutein content.


The lutein acts as a cartenoid protector against a number of eye diseases including cataract. Milk, nuts, and almonds are also very good food sources for the improvement of vision.
