Breakfast Plans to Boost Your Metabolism and Burn Fat

Submitted by Loring A. Windblad on July 13, 2010

It is common knowledge as well as a medical fact that eating a healthy breakfast enhances the functioning of the human body. There are many reasons why a nutritious breakfast is essential for health and well being.

Many people eat very small meals throughout the day with a large meal before they go to bed. However, this is not advisable as the body doesn’t need fuel during the night. It also cannot burn off the calories that are consumed at this time. Therefore it makes sense to consume the right combination of nutrients and calories at breakfast.

This will make for a more productive day and will give the body adequate energy to perform various tasks. Those who are trying to lose weight will also benefit from eating a good breakfast as it will supply them with the energy needed for an intensive weight-loss workout. As you sleep at night, your metabolic rate slows and your body goes into survival mode.

The heart rate and other body functions also slow down. Calories consumed during dinner are also likely to get stored during this time. After this fasting period, the body will need energy and this can be provided by eating healthy breakfast foods.

This will give the body’s metabolism a jump start and will keep the body running well until lunch time. Skipping breakfast means prolonging the survival mode of the body. This only serves to keep your metabolic low until the next meal.

Some natural metabolism boosters include grapefruit which helps to reduce insulin levels, green tea which improves functioning of the nervous system and almonds which are rich in essential fatty acids. There are other foods that boost your metabolism as well. Eggs are rich in protein and are ideal for burning excess fat. A lot of energy is required to break down protein and this increases the fat burning capacity of the body. Fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids as well as protein and is known to improve metabolism. High fiber foods such as whole wheat bread also increase the metabolism of the body. Another healthy addition to a meal is lean meat which is a healthy source of protein. Eating smaller meals more frequently during the day also helps to maintain blood sugar levels and provides a steady supply of energy. For good metabolism, it is also necessary to perform exercise. Aerobic exercise performed in the mornings is known to raise metabolism levels throughout the day.
