However, if the amount of weight that needs to be lost is a lot, then this diet may be difficult to maintain for a prolonged period. In fact there are several people who use a liquid protein diet as a way to kick off a diet regimen and get off to a good start. Several studies have indicated that a liquid protein diet can be quite healthy, if followed on a twelve week schedule. Learning how to plan a well balanced meal is as important as being prepared for the days when you will be off the liquid diet. This means planning a diet, which has sources of good protein, form lean meat, fish, poultry and other healthy resources that can help you to lose weight or maintain it, even once the course of your liquid protein diet is complete.

Benefits of a liquid diet

One of the main benefits of a liquid diet is that it helps one to lose a lot of weight without placing undue stress on one’s system. In case you decide to follow a liquid diet, you are giving your digestive system some rest, which allows it to reprogram and rejuvenate itself. Moreover, your organs have to work a lot less at getting nutrition from a liquid diet, as compared to a proper solid food diet. If you decide to go on for a liquid diet that is plant based, it means that you will consume more fruit juices and vegetable broths, which will make your skin healthier and a lot more vibrant. If you are relatively healthy to begin with, you will probably see the changes within the first 24 hours of switching over to a liquid diet. Since a diet like the liquid diet is also a great way of detoxifying your body, an increase in energy and improved mood are additional benefits of the diet.

Getting started with a liquid diet is quite easy, but the difficult part is maintaining it. Therefore, some people follow a liquid diet only once or twice in a week. A liquid diet should only be initiated upon a doctor’s recommendation or consultation. It is also important to realize that such diets are only fit for a short period of time because such a drastic restriction of calories can be dangerous and unhealthy, if followed for a long time. Moreover, a person cannot undertake any strenuous physical activity, when following such a diet. These diets should only be followed when a person is in a relative state of rest.
