Potassium is one of the essential minerals required for proper functioning of the human body. Potassium is necessary for good growth of muscles and also aids in the functioning of the nervous system. There are many foods which are rich in both potassium and magnesium. Magnesium is another essential mineral that is required for functioning of the nerves, muscles, immune system and heart. Foods rich in potassium and magnesium include nuts, legumes, cereals, grains, fish, meats, fruits and vegetables. One does not require potassium supplements if there is adequate intake of the mineral through the daily diet. Also, the requirement of potassium may vary from one individual to another. Those who perform vigorous daily exercise may need more potassium. Such individuals may also require additional potassium supplements.
