Causes and Effects of Overweight on Health

A person who is overweight is definitely not healthy; his health is compromised at some point or the other. There are many health consequences an overweight or an obese person has to go through. They are at an increased risk of getting certain disease conditions like hypertension or high blood pressure, dyslipidemia (which can involve high total blood cholesterol, high triglycerides, high LDL and low HDL), stroke, coronary heart disease, osteoarthritis (in this condition where degeneration of cartilages and underlying joint occurs), diabetes, gall bladder diseases or gall stones, respiratory problems like sleep apnea and some cancers like colon cancer, breast and endometrial cancer. There are different causes for being overweight which includes high intake of energy and fat foods, low physical activity or sedentary lifestyle, heredity, hypothyroidism which can lower down the metabolism, chronic stress, and adverse effects of certain medications. The main and common reason however for being overweight is lack of physical activity and wrong eating habits.

It is important to include a healthy balanced diet which has sufficient amounts of whole cereals, grains and its product, beans, sprouts, low fat dairy product and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Along with these dietary modifications regular physical activity is also necessary to avoid any health issues in life.
