The Importance of Healthy Eating Habits for Small Business Entrepreneurs

Submitted by Serena Mason on June 17, 2010

Being a small business entrepreneur, you would face more stress and strains in life since your existence is directly connected to how much you work. This is probably one of the worst things about starting your own business, as many people fall prey to the temptation to work more and more. The human body was never designed to sit behind a desk and just use the brain to burn of calories; however, this is the life that most of us lead in this century. This has also give rise to some very unique diseases that are connected with a sedentary lifestyle like heart disease and obesity. Additionally, some of our work practices force other diseases upon us like carpal tunnel syndrome. One of the aspects that should be controlled is the diet.

Most workaholics tend to view a coffee break and a lunch break in the same light and therefore end up eating too much or eating the completely wrong food. Therefore, it is important to understand some aspects of the diet.

What you need to power you on for the 16 hours of the day that you are awake lies in your muscles and is a substance called creatine.

Creatine might sound familiar as it is one of the main supplements that are taken by body builders to build up muscle and increase energy levels. Creatine actually works to energize one because it acts as a capacitor in the energy equation in the body. Not to delve into the chemistry of the reaction, energy in the body is cause by the degradation of a chemical called ATP into ADP.

Once this reaction occurs, energy is required to create ATP again and this can take some time. To avoid this waste of time, the free ion of phosphorus that is released during the ATP-ADP reaction binds to creatine and can then be degraded back to create ATP in a matter of seven seconds. Thus creatine works as a capacitor in the cells of the body.

Creatine is required by all cells of the body that use ATP from the muscles to the brain. Creatine is synthesized in the body and doesn’t have to be taken in the diet but you must consume more arginine in your diet as this is a raw material for creating creatine. This can be acquired from dairy, eggs, soy, and, in more minute quantities, from all kinds of vegetables and nuts.
