Vitamin E Supplements

Unfortunately, the human body does not manufacture any vitamin E. It depends entirely on nutrients obtained from food. Vitamin E is the term used for 8 organic compounds. The human body, however, only uses the compound alpha-tocopherol as vitamin E and hence it is this vitamin E that is most commonly found in the human body. Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin.

Vitamin E is usually obtained by the body through vitamin E supplements like nuts, seeds and vegetable oils.

Benefits Of  Vitamin E Supplements -

The benefits of vitamin E supplements are numerous. Vitamin E plays an important role in preventing heart disease. Scientific studies have shown that people who regularly consumed vitamin E are at a lower risk of having heart disease than those who did not consume sufficient vitamin E. Vitamin E limits the oxidation of LDL-cholesterol, or “bad” cholesterol, and hence assists in preventing or at least delaying coronary heart disease. To an extent, it also assists in the proper clotting of blood and the healing of wounds. Additionally, vitamin E is a potent antioxidant. It neutralizes free radicals in the body that are produced as a by-product of metabolic processes. These free radicals can cause harm to the body by causing tissue damage and also cellular damage.

Vitamin E also improves blood circulation in the body. This will help to lower blood pressure. Vitamin E also boosts the immune system. Vitamin is also known to guard against the formation of cancers, especially breast cancer. Consuming higher amounts of Vitamin E has been found to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women, particularly those who had a family history of breast cancer. Unfortunately, the average American woman today does not even consume enough vitamin E to meet the Recommended Daily Allowance figures. This gap can be bridged by increasing your vitamin E intake.

Here are some common vitamin E supplements in food:

a)    The use of vegetable oils for food preparation will provide vitamin E to the body. You can use oil obtained from sunflower, corn, canola, cottonseed, sesame, peanut and rice bran as all these are great vitamin E sources.
b)    Legumes and grains are good natural vitamin E supplements. Increase your consumption of wheat, corn, rice, lentils, chickpeas, barley grass and oats. Include them in your daily diet on a regular basis.
c)    Wheat germ and wheat germ oil also are excellent sources of vitamin E.
d)    Consuming more nuts on a regular basis will increase your vitamin E count. You can have any kind of nuts like almonds, peanuts, walnuts, pistachios or even hazelnuts.

Apart from natural supplements, there are also chemical supplements available. It is best if you take them after consulting with your doctor. Along with vitamin E supplements, vitamin B complex supplements also help in leading a healthy life. While vitamin E has been used commonly in lotions and shampoos, the use of the vitamin E supplement for hair growth and nourishment has only recently been brought into practice. Vitamin E supplements improve blood circulation, even to the scalp, and this provides healthier, nourished hair.

Furthermore, vitamin E also obstructs the formation of nitrosamines in the body. These are carcinogens which are formed in the stomach from nitrites. These nitrites are consumed in the diet.
