Age to take protein shakes

There is no definite age at which you can start taking protein shakes. The decision to start taking protein shakes depends on the reason behind it. Some people do this to either gain or lose weight, others to build body muscles. It is important that you consult a medical professional before you start taking protein shakes.

Many people start taking protein shakes to help them build muscle.

Protein is an excellent way to keep muscle, skin and bone strong. Athletes often use protein shakes. One of the best things about protein shakes is that they are available in several flavors. They are available in either ready to drink packages or in powder form. They come in combinations of fats, carbohydrates and protein. Protein shakes help to add just the required amount of protein to your body. When choosing a protein shake, be sure to choose the one with the right combination for you. Keep in mind that protein shakes vary in protein content. Body builders need to drink protein shakes which have more protein content. Endurance athletes should choose ones with more carbohydrates. People who wish to lose weigh should have shakes that have mainly protein, a little fat and fewer carbohydrates. Protein shakes contain different kinds of protein in varying amounts. These include egg, soy, whey, casein and milk. Using protein shakes to replace meals is strictly taboo. Use them instead, in between meals to prevent yourself from snacking. Protein shakes should be part of a well balanced diet. It is not advisable to drink too much protein. This can result in dehydration and you can also be at risk for more serious conditions like gout or kidney stones. It is also easy to make protein shakes at home. Use fresh ingredients and avoid processed or preserved ingredients if you choose to do this.

Kids’ protein shakes are beneficial for those who are athletic and also those who have difficulty in putting on weight. Remember that the daily protein requirement for a child depends on the age, activeness and body weight of the child. It is best to consult a dietician about the daily calorie required for optimal growth. Make tasty and delicious shakes for children by adding fresh fruit, vanilla or almond extracts and combine this with either milk or soy milk or fruit juice. The protein part can be added by with vanilla or plain yogurt or even tofu. Soy or whey protein powder is another alternative.

There is no such clear classification regarding age and protein shakes. Starting a protein shake depends on the cause or why you exactly want to start with it? Protein requirements can be easily accomplished by eating a balanced diet and including foods rich in proteins. These foods include eggs, fish, lean meat, de skinned chicken, sprouts, pulses, milk and milk products. Some people start protein shakes with the intension of gaining or losing weight, some start due to the loss of lean body mass (which is believed to occur after the age of 35), or some for building body muscles. However you can start as early as you reach your teens or adulthood. But remember this should be done under the guidance and recommendation of a health care professional.
