Pepper may offer plenty of beneficial results; however most of its claims made by traditional practitioners and alternative therapists are not established by modern medical research.



Black pepper is contains an alkaloid known as piperine that is believed to contain anti-carcinogenic and anticonvulsant properties. The possible health benefits of pepper include relief from hemorrhoids, constipation, enhanced and stabilized digestion.

  • Black pepper health benefits also include stimulating the taste buds, and arousing the stomach acids to produce more hydrochloric acid for aiding in digestion.

  • Pepper can also be beneficial in treating cluster headaches and is believed to be a viable treatment option amongst herbalists. Some studies have established the positive effect of pepper on skin disorders such as itching and psoriasis.
  • Topical application of pepper derived compounds are known to be useful in relieving various itchy skin conditions, like prurigo nodularis, but more research needs to be conducted to establish confirmed results.
