Healthy Fats and Its Health Benefit

Most people, especially weight watchers have the tendency to avoid fats, as they can lead to obesity, which is one of the leading causes of several health problems around the world. Unfortunately, many of us do not realize that there are bad fats, which should be avoided, as far as possible and then there are healthy fats, which are actually good for the human body.

What are healthy fats?

There are some food items, which contain certain fats that do not cause any harm to the body and instead improve cardiovascular health. In addition to that, these healthy fats are known to protect the joints, bones and different organs in the body. Therefore, by consuming these healthy fats, you can actually optimize your cellular as well as brain function. Fats can be mainly divided into two types, saturated fats and unsaturated fat.

Health experts usually ask people to avoid saturated fat, because they cannot be converted into useful energy easily. These unhealthy fats are found in food items such as fried food, cheese, chicken skin, red meat, whole milk and butter. However, the body does require some amount of fat and therefore, it cannot be eliminated from a diet completely. Hence, unsaturated fats, which mainly include polyunsaturated fat and monounsaturated fats should be consumed as they are regarded as the “healthy fats”. They do not solidify when they are in the digestive system, which is why the body can easily use them up, as energy.

List Of Healthy Fats

There are several food items that should be included in all nutritious diets, since they contain healthy fats to eat. People can easily refer to a list of healthy fats, to know the type of fat in each food item. Given below is a healthy fats list:

  • Polyunsaturated Fats: These fats are good for preventing oxidation within the circulatory system. It is the oxidization process that leads to the buildup of plaque in the blood, which is the major contributor of heart diseases. These healthy fats are found in certain kinds of cooking oil, such as corn oil, cottonseed oil and sunflower oil.
  • Monounsaturated fats: Oxidization can be prevented with the help of these fats too. At the same time, these healthy fats also improve liver functioning, thereby reducing cholesterol. Foods that are high in monounsaturated fats include olive oil, peanuts and avocado.
  • Omega Oils: Omega oils, mainly Omega-3 and Omega-6, are regarded as poly-unsaturated fats. These healthy fats can be found in food items such as whole grains, certain nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, leafy greens as well as fish.
