What Are Hemorrhoids And Hemorrhoids Symptoms

Hemorrhoids: When the veins around the lower rectum or the anus become swollen and inflamed, the condition is known as hemorrhoids. This happens quite often due to diarrhea or constipation when there is increased pressure brought on by straining. Pregnancy, chronic constipation, aging and anal intercourse can also cause hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are either under the skin around the anus or inside the anus.

Symptoms: Hemorrhoids are not life threatening, and the symptoms generally disappear within a few days.

Other anorectal problems like itching, irritation, abscesses and fistulae have similar symptoms and sometimes confused with hemorrhoids.

Blood covering the stool, the toilet bowl or the toilet paper is the most common symptom of hemorrhoids. If you have a protruding hemorrhoid, then the hemorrhoid will protrude out from the anus outside the body. This can be painful.

But if it an external hemorrhoid, it will be manifested as a hard lump or a painful swelling around the anus that happens due to the formation of a blood clot.

This condition is called Thrombosed external hemorrhoid. Rubbing around the anus can cause bleeding, itching or irritation.

To diagnose hemorrhoids, you must visit a doctor and undergo an examination.

Hemorrhoids Treatment And Diet For Hemorrhoids

Treatment And Diet: Medical treatment of this problem is aimed at reducing the painful symptoms. This is done by prescribing tub baths several times a day.

The bath water must be warm and the bath is prescribed for at least 10 minutes per session. Doctors also prescribe a hemorrhoidal cream or a suppository.

To prevent hemorrhoids, you will need to put less pressure while passing stool. Try to prevent constipation as this can prevent hemorrhoids.

Doctors also ask patients to increase their intake of fiber and fluids. If you drink at least eight glasses of water every day and have the right amount of fiber, then the stool will be softer. And when the stool is softer, you will not need to exert so much of pressure. So eliminating straining can prevent hemorrhoids from protruding.

Whole grains, vegetables and fruits are good sources of fiber. Sometimes doctors also prescribe fiber supplements or bulk stool softeners. In cases where diet and medicines fail to effectively eliminate the problem; there are a number of medicated creams and products that may produce the desired effects. In serious cases, the doctor may recommend a surgical procedure.

Diet Tips: Eat a lot of whole grains, fresh fruits, stewed or dried fruits, root vegetables and fresh vegetables. You might also want to eat bran cereal in the morning for fiber requirements.
