Diet for Type II Diabetes
Are you referring to type 2 diabetes? It was initially referred to as non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. The possibility of ketosis is less in the case of type 2 diabetes. Exchanges are available in each food group namely, cereals, pulses, fruits, vegetables and fats. These help in creating variety in the diet by replacing with the various foods available in the respective exchange. Excessive energy intake is not allowed, especially when the expenditure is less.
Low glycemic index foods are useful in maintenance of the blood sugar levels. What an individual eats is important, but when to eat is more useful. Fasting and feasting is not allowed. Skipping foods especially breakfast is not recommended, as it results in hypoglycaemia. Choose the right foods along with regualr exercise are effective in treating this disorder.
Ketones are checked for in case of individuals with 240 mg/dl, as their blood glucose level. Alcoholic beverages and smoking are completely abstained from. Refined and processed foods are avoided. Refined foods have a greater glycemic index. Sugar added beverages are not permitted. Increased intake of fruit juices results in increased risk of diabetes.
