Increase Your Energy Levels

Is there a diet for increasing energy levels?
(July 15, 2010)

Increasing Energy Levels: A good diet helps us in increasing our energy levels. It is also important, however, to evaluate the other aspects of our lives in order to identify the causes of tiredness or fatigue. In some cases, physiological factors such as imbalances of thyroid hormones, emotional stress, and lack of adequate sleep may be responsible for low energy levels. Therefore, along with dietary regulations, we must also make the necessary lifestyle changes and this will help to boost energy levels.

Boosting Energy Levels: Firstly, there are some foods which we must avoid as these cause depletion of energy. These foods include baked foods, cookies, biscuits, chocolate, fruit drinks, and sodas.

These are filled with sugar, which does give you an immediate energy boost as they raise insulin levels. But the decline in energy is just as quick and you are likely to feel more tired than before. Caffeine is another quick solution for low energy. However, this too will leave you feeling drained after some time. Caffeine is also addictive and it is advisable to slowly eliminate it from your diet. There are some foods which may make you feel drowsy. These include carbohydrates which lead to alterations in serotonin levels in the brain and contribute to feelings of calm. Eating carbohydrates in the middle of the day can leave you feeling sleepy. A good way to overcome this is to eat protein rich foods such as hard-boiled egg, turkey, or tuna salad.

Energy Boosting Diets: There are a variety of foods that should be a part of the diet as they help in boosting energy levels. A lack of adequate iron in the diet is responsible for low energy levels, especially in women. Women lose blood and therefore iron every month due to menstruation and this must be replaced through the diet or via supplements. Iron deficiency anemia is likely to result in chronic fatigue. Herbs can also help improve energy levels. Sipping on herbal teas such as gingko biloba and ginseng teas are known to be beneficial.  The best way to keep your energy levels elevated is to eat as much natural, whole foods as you can. These are very good for health and help to provide the body with energy. You also need to ensure that all your meals are balanced and contain all the food groups. Exercise also helps to increase energy levels as it allows your body to remain fit and boosts stamina. One must also get enough rest so that the body has a chance to recover and rejuvenate.
