Advice on Bloating Weight Gain

Bloating is the build up of gas in the stomach and intestines leading to mild and dull or sharp and intense pain in the stomach. Bloating can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. Passing gas and bowel movement can relieve this problem.

Bloating occurs due to high fat which increases the satiety value and enhances the feeling of fullness on consumption. People tend to swallow air unknowingly leafing to swallowing of nitrogen and oxygen. Oxygen tends to be absorbed by the intestine leading to less chances of flatulence.

But nitrogen is poorly absorbed leading to formation of gases. Poorly absorbed carbohydrates can lead to formation of hydrogen and carbon dioxide by the colon bacteria. Certain foods itself can produce gas like beans, cabbage. Brussels. Apple. Bread, ice creams, soft cheese and cauliflower.

Certain precautions that can be taken to prevent bloating are:

  • Chew the food thoroughly.
  • Eat smaller and frequent meals instead of three larger meals.
    Avoid high fat meals.
  • Consult the doctor if the person is suffering from malabsorption disorder.
  • Prefer foods with minimal gas like rice, grapes, banana, citrus fruits, egg, meat and peanut butter.
  • Learn relaxation techniques to avoid entrance of air in the mouth.
  • Avoid lying down on the back as soon as having food as the air can enter into the intestine.

However in case of severe pain in the stomach due to bloating it is advisable to consult a doctor.
