Is orange juice good for kidney stones?

Kidney stones are formed on account of the calcium deposits in the kidneys or even within the urinary tract of the individual. Research has shown that both lemon and orange juice for kidney stones is an effective home remedy because they are excellent sources of citrate. However as compared to the lemon juice remedy for kidney stones, orange juice for kidney stones was known to be more beneficial. This is because the citrate from the orange juice when absorbed in to the body is more effective in the prevention as well as in dissolving existing kidney stones. While resorting to the lemon juice remedy for kidney stones or even consuming orange juice for kidney stones one should ensure that they consume freshly squeezed orange or lemon juice only and not the commercially available juice. This is because commercial juices tend to be rich in fructose corn syrup which not only is one of the causes of kidney stones but also results in aggravating the condition further. Both lemon juice and orange juice are known to be beneficial for kidney stones as they help in dissolving the stones that have formed and thereby allow their easy elimination through the urine. Along with fresh fruit and vegetable juices one should also ensure that they consume sufficient amounts of fresh drinking water.

Is green tea good for kidney stones?

Regular consumption of green tea is in fact beneficial for preventing and treating kidney stones. Consumption of green tea for kidney stones helps prevent the formation of larger stones and also helps in de-crystallizing the stones. Green tea contains catechins which are powerful antioxidants that can help in eliminating free radicals which can result in the formation of kidney stones. The phenols contained in green tea help in binding calcium oxalate and can therefore alter the shape of the crystals. These smaller shaped crystals are less likely to stick together and form stones in the kidney.

Smaller stones are also easier to pass through urination and not as painful as the bigger ones. Another good herbal tea for kidney stones can be prepared by boiling 1 ½ cups of water along with cramp bark, wild yam and a small quantity of hydrangea. This mixture should be allowed to simmer for at least 15 minutes and then be allowed to cool down and strained before consumption. This tea can be had 3-4 times a day to effectively get rid of kidney stones. Consumption of herbal tea for kidney stones is not only an effective remedy but also safer compared to other drugs and medications.

Is spinach bad for kidney stones?

The kidneys are a pair of organs that perform the function of filtering the blood and removing waste products from it. These waste products are passed into the urinary bladder where they are temporarily stored before evacuation through urination. Kidney stones occur when hard stone like blocks form in the various canals of the kidneys. These stones are usually made up of protein deposits or other materials that have been filtered by the kidneys. Kidney stones can cause a great deal of pain and discomfort. If untreated, the development of stones can lead to the eventual failure of the organ which is then a life threatening condition.

There is some evidence to suggest that one should not consume spinach for kidney stones. Spinach is suspected to raise the risk of developing kidney stones. Thus one should avoid spinach for renal stones. Instead, a simple, healthy diet should be followed with a balance between various nutrients and food groups. Depending on the doctor’s recommendations, one should vary the fluid intake to suit the condition. Diuretic juices may be recommended to help remove the stones. Otherwise, one should consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables as these will nourish the body and improve one’s health.

From your question I understand that you wish to gather information about the proper diet to be followed in case you have suffered from a kidney stone. Interestingly, the development of kidney stones is far more common in men rather than in women. Although the diet that you follow does play an important role in the development of the kidney stones in your body, you should also know that other factors like family history also play an important role in the development of kidney stones in an individual.

A low calcium diet is very effective in preventing the formation of kidney stones. Another relatively easy way of ensuring that you do not develop kidney stones is by ensuring that your intake of water is increased. The consumption of eight to ten glasses a day is recommended by doctors as the most effective way of ensuring that you do not develop kidney stones. When your body has a high concentration of fluids in your body, this will help reduce the calcium in the fluid that is filtered by your kidney. When your body begins to harbor a high concentration of calcium and oxalate, or even other minerals like phosphate that is the time when your body is most likely to form stones.

You should also ensure that you do not start on a course of calcium supplements unless you have first discussed this with your doctor. You should also ensure that your regular intake of food does not contain food that is rich in calcium.

A high intake of sodium and protein is another possible reason for the formation of kidney stones. The best way to avoid consuming a high percentage of sodium is by reducing your intake of salt. Eat food that has less salt that you actually need. Avoid adding salt to the food at the table. Most processed foods contain a very high percentage of sodium. You should avoid eating these and instead stick to eating lightly cooked food that does not contain too much salt.

You should avoid eating large quantities of chocolate and cut down on your intake of tea. Nuts like Peanuts, pecans and almonds should also be cut out of your diet while spinach, despite its many excellent properties, should be eaten only in moderation.

Your intake of food that contains calcium should not be completely reduced. You can continue to eat food that contains calcium, in order to ensure that you consume a balanced diet.
