Epilepsy health advice

Epilepsy is a disorder that interferes with transmission of electric signals in the brain. Certain symptom episodes take place that can cause strange behavior, emotions and sensations. Some people may have convulsions whereas some people may stare blankly for few minutes.

Although the cause may not be specific, sometimes epilepsy occurs due to abnormalities in one or many genes. Heredity also plays a role in the development of this disorder although it may not be a major cause. It can also occur due to the trauma, accidents and disease that can injure the brain and deprive it of oxygen.

It can also occur due to tumor in the brain.

An episode of epilepsy may lead to unconsciousness, confusion and jerking movements in the hands and feet. Seizures can be partial or generalized depending on whether the abnormal activity has affected only one part of brain or whole portion of the brain.

Medication is one of the solutions for epilepsy. Apart from that have ketogenic diet that are high in fat and protein and low in carbohydrates so that ketones are formed leading to use of fat rather than carbohydrates, Avoid alcohol. Whenever seizures take place note down the time and duration either singly or with the help of someone. Sleep very well and avoid stress and tension.

Since seizures involve jerky movements in the hands and feet this may lead to pain in hands and feet. Epilepsy is basically disorder of the brain and not of blood. Hence disorder in the circulation rarely takes place in epilepsy.
