Calories In Squash

Introduction: The squash group includes spaghetti squash, butternut, acorn and pumpkin. These are all rich sources of carotene and if the color is darker then the nutrients are more concentrated too. These squashes are also a rich source of vitamin B6 B1, folic acid, vitamin C, pantothenic acid, potassium and fiber.  Other squash related vegetables are zucchini, carrots and various gourds. There are two categories of squashes one is the winter group and the other is a summer group.

Calories in squash:
Calories in squash are low and this is an excellent vegetable for those on a weight loss diet.

They can have large helpings of any type of squash provided it is not highly topped with butter or cream. Not only is it a low calorie food it also has a lot of nutrients which are good for the system and which will add to the healthy diet. Though the taste is rather bland this can be rectified by adding some spices and herbs to it.

Soups made of squash are nourishing and filling.

How many calories in squash:
The calories in squash are low so there is no need to worry about how many in calories in squash if you are on a weight loss diet. A cup of cooked squash without any fat added to it is about 30 calories.

What is more important in squash is the minerals which make up for the larger portion of nutrients. One such mineral which is lacking in most people is magnesium and which can cause a lot of health problems.  A lack of magnesium alone can cause irritability, anxiety, depression and faster aging. Apart from these mental problems one could also suffer from physical ones like osteoporosis, kidney stones, constipation, backaches, PMS, hear disorders, headaches, muscular spasms, cramps and tensions and low energy and fatigue.

Calories in squash cooked:
Calories in squash when cooked differ from one to the other ranging from 20 calories to 100. This makes it safe to consume squash while you are on a low calorie diet as it has a filling effect and you can leave the table feeling satisfied with your meal.  Other low calorie vegetables can be added to any kind of squash to give it more body and taste.

Calories in squash soup:
Calories in squash soup are the lowest and this is the easiest way to consume squash. Carrots and other vegetables can be added to the squash soup to make it more palatable along with herbs and lentils.

Calories squash:
In a 100 grams of this vegetable the calories in squash would be just about 25 which is lower than inmost other vegetables. Having a variety of winter and summer squashes would also give you all the minerals and vitamins you need while controlling the caloric intake. Make squash a regular vegetable in your diet plan to stay on a healthy diet.
