Sick Days - How to Manage Work and Health Effectively

Sick days are something that you just have to accommodate for in your career as a normal result of getting infections like the flu and especially if you are a workaholic. While the former is something that is mostly uncontrollable, the latter is something that is still with your control. There are those that will say that getting infections that happen as a regular part of life can be avoided but the truth is that you cannot and the best you can hope for is that your body is strong enough to ensure that you are not bed-ridden for too long during this period. It is also important to tailor your lifestyle around your work accordingly. There is a mistaken school of thought that states that if you work hard, you must also party and play hard.


This can lead to excessive alcohol consumption, erratic meal, and sleep times. This is a recipe for disaster and also for some debilitating illnesses. What you should instead do is to rest your body more and take care of your body more if your work is more demanding than eight hours of the day.



The first step to ensuring that you don’t have to call in sick to work is to ensure that your energy levels are at its peak and that your immune system is at its peak. This requires ensuring that your body is completely nourished by eating a diet that is carbohydrate rich and fat poor. Additionally, you must ensure that you incorporate lots of dairy and an egg every day in your diet.


This will ensure that your body has all that it nutritionally needs. Refrain from habits like drinking coffee excessively as this can cause acidity buildups. Smoking is a silent energy sapper at the work place.


If you are a smoker then the worst thing that you can do is to smoke more than one cigarette every two hours. This is because nicotine is active for at least two hours in your body and there is no point to having more in your system. Smoking is something that should be avoided in general and being at work tends to push smokers over their normal limits.

Finally, you must ensure that you do get eight hours of sleep. It is during sleep that a lot of the healing processes in the body and the true resting state occurs.
