Home Remedies for Dry Scalp

Dry scalp occurs when the scalp is stripped of its natural oils. Dryness of the scalp can result in itching and dandruff which further aggravates the problem. Sores and lesions may also occur on the scalp due to scratching. The skin, including the scalp, loses its natural moisture due to factors such as pollution and harsh weather. The use of hard water to wash the hair may also have an adverse effect on the scalp. Many shampoos contain high amounts of chemicals in them and these can dry out the scalp. The diet also plays an important role in the health of the scalp and hair. Poor nutrition is likely to lead to dryness of the scalp and dull hair. To alleviate the problem of dry scalp, switch to a milder shampoo, preferably an herbal one. Also avoid using hot water to wash your hair. Massaging your scalp with warm olive oil or almond oil will also help to reduce dryness. Eating healthy is also very helpful in ensuring the health of the scalp. Consume plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits and include a multivitamin in your diet. Vitamin B and vitamin C are known to be beneficial for healthy scalp and hair.

Home Remedies for Pimples, Blackheads and Whiteheads

Pimples are inflammations that occur on the skin due to clogged hair follicles or pores. Excess oil production by the sebaceous glands causes the accumulation of oil in the pores, along with dead skin cells, bacteria and other debris. These form plugs that block the pores and blackheads and whiteheads are formed. Infection by bacteria results in pus formation, thereby leading to development of pimples. Pimples occur primarily due to excess production of oil. This can be attributed to hormonal changes in the body.

A diet rich in vitamins A, B complex and E is very beneficial for alleviating the problem of pimples. Also drink plenty of water every day so that the toxins in your system are expelled from the body through the urine. Applying a paste of cinnamon powder and honey is known to be effective in treating pimples. You may also apply a mixture of a teaspoon each of lemon juice and cinnamon powder. Orange peel is another recommended remedy for pimples. Grind orange peel into a paste by adding some water and apply to the affected areas. Applying mint juice to the affected skin also helps in arresting infection. A solution of rose water and lime juice can also be applied to the pimples. Rubbing garlic on the affected areas will help to treat the pimples and will also prevent marks from developing on the skin.
