Healthy Shakes

Healthy shakes are also called diet shakes and form an essential part of a weight loss diet program. Many people these days are even replacing meals with healthy shakes to lose weight quickly.  Healthy shakes and smoothies are most popular for their nutritional value and are an excellent way to lose and maintain weight. These shakes are not only great energy boosters but also effectively cut down your appetite and help you stay away from junk and fast foods. Homemade healthy shakes are refreshing and cooling and provide good nutrition that our body requires. These shakes can keep you feeling full for longer periods of time and are even better than simple fruit juices.
The best and most healthy way to prepare these shakes is by using skimmed milk or low fat milk which is lower in calorie content but at the same time provides good calcium for the body. People whose busy lifestyle makes it difficult for them to follow a healthy daily diet can begin their day with healthy shakes for breakfast which can be prepared in minutes. Although there are a large variety of healthy shakes for weight loss available in the market, these can be easily made at home using simple ingredients. Some simple healthy shakes recipes are as under:
  • In a blender, blend skimmed milk or low fat milk along with 1 apple, 1 banana, 1-2 oranges, few blueberries or strawberries and some ice cubes. This makes a great healthy shake which contains no additional sugar and at the same time is highly nutritious and filling.
  • A packet of sugar free jello or fat free pudding mixture combines with a cup of skimmed milk and a cup of crushed ice makes an ideal stomach filling jello shake.
  • Another great recipe can be prepared by blending half a cup of cold raspberries, a dash of vanilla extract and cup of skimmed milk. This recipe is called the Shaker’s delight and contains only 80-100 calories.
  • A simple banana shake can be prepared by blending a small banana, a cup of low fat milk, half a cup of low fat vanilla yogurt and ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Although these homemade healthy shakes are a good way to cut down calorie consumption they should be combined with an overall balanced healthy diet and adequate physical exercises so that you can achieve your weight loss goals in an effective manner.
