Cinnamon Supplements And Cinnamon Health Benefits

Cinnamon has been used as an important culinary ingredient as well as for its medicinal properties for ages.



Several thousands years ago, cinnamon was an extremely precious ingredient, given as a gift to kings. It is believed that Egyptians used cinnamon for creating their embalming paste.



Later on during the Middle Ages, the Arab traders carried cinnamon and other exotic spices with them as they traded with people of different cultures.

Cinnamon means sweet wood in Greek and is derived from the inner part of the bark of the cinnamon tree.



The bark is rolled and kept aside to dry before cutting into sticks, a few inches in size. Cinnamon ingredients and cinnamon supplements are stored for a few months at a time and are used for various purposes.

Cinnamon is used to flavor beverages like hot chocolate or cocoa; it is used in baked products like apple pie and puddings; in curries; and, in several herbal medicines. Cinnamon essential oil is even used for making perfumes and in several beauty care products.

Health Benefits Of Cinnamon

  • Research has shown that cinnamon has anti-parasitic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that can ward off infections like oral yeast infections, head lice, stomach ulcers, and vaginal yeast infections.
  • The anti-inflammatory properties in cinnamon is said to be good for suppressing inflammation in internal tissues and can prevent heart disease.
  • Cinnamon is good for diabetic people as it can control the levels of blood sugar and can lower the LDL cholesterol and the fatty acids in the blood.
  • Rich in calcium, iron, dietary fiber and manganese, cinnamon can flush out the bile, thus, preventing damage to colon cells. This feature also prevents colon cancer.



    The fiber in cinnamon can combat constipation as well as irritable bowel syndrome.
  • Studies have also shown that cinnamon can enhance our memory and can make us perform certain tasks better.
  • During the medieval ages, cinnamon was used to treat coughs and sore throats. In modern times, cinnamon can cure nausea, intestinal spasms, stomach cramps, indigestion and diarrhea. Cinnamon is supposed to be good for improving our appetite.
  • Research has shown that extracts of cinnamon can stop the growth of cultured tumor cells. This fragrant spice is also a good food preservative and can combat food-borne bacteria.
  • Cinnamon bark and oil can cure swollen lips and oral lesions. In fact, cinnamon is also used in toothpastes and perfumes.
  • Cinnamon in small doses is good for health.
