Diabetic Desserts


Diabetes is a condition when the sugar levels in your blood are very high and cannot be controlled by your body. This condition arises because the body cannot or stops producing insulin, which is a hormone that is produced by the pancreas. Insulin helps keep the blood sugar level low and moves glucose to the muscles thus giving energy and fuel for the body to function properly. If a diabetic person consumes a lot of sugar through food it can be fatal to the system. There are many ways to control your diabetes and one of these is by consuming a healthy diet and exercising.
Diabetics that have a sweet tooth could have desserts but the idea to maintain the correct balance. In fact you will be very surprised to see the number of diabetic desserts and sugar free desserts available today.

Some of the delicious diabetic desserts include pies, cakes, chocolate mousse and parfaits. However care should be taken that these diabetic dessert recipes are made using sugar free products. For example you can make your favorite cup of hot chocolate without sugar and add cinnamon to it. You could even make a sugar free pudding layered with sugar free whipped cream and add fruits to it, as it will act as a natural sweetener.

Recipes For Desserts For Diabetes


Another recipe you could try is - Mix 3 cups each of honeydew melon and cantaloupe and sprinkle 2 teaspoons of honey and little chopped mint leaves this makes a tasty melon salad. A few more sugar free dessert recipes that are not only fun preparing but also satisfy that craving for a dessert are:
  • Fruit salad in yogurt: All you need to do to make this tasty dessert is, mix a cup of fat free yogurt with1 tablespoon of lemon juice, honey and a drop of vanilla essence. Whisk all these ingredients well. Next slice 2 cups of strawberry, 2 cups of grapes and 1 cup of blueberries and mix the sliced fruits with the whisked yogurt. This quick dessert will be sufficient for 5 servings. You can make changes in quantity according to your need.
  • Banana Split Cake: The ingredients you will need for this mouth watering dessert are 1 ounce sugar free vanilla pudding mix, 2 cups of fat free milk, 10 ounces of canned, crushed pineapple and 4 medium sized bananas. You would also require 2 one and half inch squares of cracker sheets, 8 ounce of light whipped topping, 8 ounce of light cream cheese and 3 tablespoons of chopped pecans. First you need to spread the cracker sheets in a 9X13 inch pan. Prepare the pudding with the fat free milk in another bowl. After the pudding is prepared spread it over the cracker sheets. Next put the crushed pineapples as a layer over the pudding then followed by the bananas and whipped topping. Sprinkle the chopped pecans over this.
  • Chocolate Mousse Pie: This is another easy to make delicious diabetic dessert. Take one 1.4 ounce of sugar and fat free chocolate pudding, one 9 inch prepackaged pie crust, one 8 ounce of fat free whipped topping, one cup of fat free milk and 2 tablespoons of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Heat the piecrust in the oven at 400 degrees according to the package directions. Cool it properly after removing from the oven. Whisk the pudding mix with milk in a bowl the fold half of the whipped topping in the pudding mixture until fully blended. Now spread the pudding mixture on the piecrust. Top it with the remaining whipped topping and finally sprinkle it with the chocolate chips.
