Lemon juice will help in restoring the body’s strength, decreasing toxicity and in reducing the length of the illness. Dilute one lemon in a glass of lukewarm water. To this, add one teaspoon of honey and stir well. This mixture should be had 2-3 times in a day. Garlic soup too is an age old remedy that is used to battle this illness. Its antispasmodic and antiseptic qualities will help in reducing the severity of the cold. Besides, the oils that are present in garlic cloves will help in opening up the respiratory passage. It will also bring down a fever by eliminating toxins from the body. You can prepare this soup by simply adding chopped garlic to boiling water.

Mix together equal proportions of water and apple cider vinegar. Boil this liquid over a medium flame. Once the solution beings to steam, lean over the saucepan and inhale these vapors deeply. This will help in relieving a stuffy nose. When one has a cold, the most advisable thing to do is desist from eating all forms of solid food and rather, stick to drinking only vegetable or fruit juices and water. Cheese, eggs, meat, fish and starchy food should all be religiously avoided till the illness has been cured. Once the cold has run its course you can gradually move to a well balanced diet comprising of grains, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits.
