Information on Healthy Food for Heart
With rapid betterment in the standard of living, decrease in infectious diseases and better care, certain degenerative diseases are rising. Coronary artery diseases, arthrosclerosis, high blood pressure and thrombosis develop due to faulty eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, alcoholism and cigarette smoking.
It is very much essential that the energy intake be equal to the energy expenditure. For this void animal foods, refined foods. A combination of cereal pulse diet with plenty of vegetables and fruits, low fat milk is recommended.
High intakes of fat and saturated fats can promote cholesterol synthesis and can raise the levels of bad cholesterol .Have more of PUFA and MUFA oils like sunflower oil, ground, palm and corn oil. Avoid the intake of animal fats
Avoid simple carbohydrates like sugar, sweets, and chocolates and prefer complex carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables, whole grain cereals that can reduce the blood lipid levels and improve the glucose tolerance.
Plant protein like pulses, legumes have a cholesterol lowering effect as compared to animal proteins.
Incorporate fiber that can increase the bile output and decrease the cholesterol levels, interfere with lipid absorption and alter glucose absorption. Unrefined foods and cereals and millets and pulses, vegetables and fruits have beneficial effects. Excess sodium is harmful and can raise blood pressure. Hence avoid that contain high amounts of added salts like processed foods, cheese, pickles.
Introduce variety of fruits and vegetables which are yellow, orange and green and vegetable oils as they are rich in antioxidants that can scavenge the free radicals formed in the body.
