Vegetarian Diet to increase body weight

Hi Mam, I am Prasad. I am a student, I want to increase my body weight with in three months could you please suggest me a vegetarian diet?

Any weight gain diet should include protein. If you are a on a vegetarian diet, make sure you increase your protein intake. Include plenty of legumes, seeds, and nuts in combination with cereals and whole grain breads, along with soy products. Getting adequate protein plays an important role in building and repairing lean muscle. Also, make sure you include plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits in your diet to make sure you meet your daily requirement of minerals and vitamins.

You can also make some high energy drinks using sweetened soya milk, whole cow’s milk, or silken tofu with honey, glucose or sugar, along with a flavoring such as vanilla or chocolate. Include a vitamin C source in your diet such as black-currant, rosehip syrup, or fresh fruit juice. Soya, dairy, or ice-cream is quite refreshing after meals. You could also check with your dietitian or doctor for some mineral or vitamin supplement and buy vegetarian products from the chemist to use as meal replacements, especially on days your appetite is poor.

Which fruits are good for weight gain?

Some of the best fruits for weight gain include banana, pineapple, orange, passion fruit, pear, grapes, mangoes and avocados. These fruits contain natural calories and sugar which can help a person gain weight effectively. Many people also eat more canned fruits for increasing weight because they contain additional sugar syrup which is high in calories. In order to gain weight canned fruits must be consumed along with the canned syrup.

Since you have not indicated what is your current weight or the amount of weight you want to increase, it will be difficult to provide a tailor-made diet for you. You have also not indicated your age or your height. These are the factors that help decide how much your weight should be. Also, increasing your weight within just three months is not a healthy option. Increasing weight should be slow and steady process.

However, since you want to increase your weight, here is generic list of the kind of diet you can follow. Increase your intake of foods rich in carbohydrates. Apart from being a rich source of energy, carbohydrates are also the ones that are responsible for making us gain weight. You will therefore need to eat more carbohydrates than normal. This would include foods like bread, rice, potatoes, cookies, bananas, biscuits, beans, lentils, and so on. You will also need to increase you intake of milk and milk products like cheese, butter, yogurt, ice-creams and even pastries. Also, do not forget to include foods rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals. Proteins are the ones that help the body to build muscles. Since you want to gain weight, you will also need to exercise. This is where a healthy intake of proteins will help you. Also make it a point to include a wide variety of nuts such as almonds, pistachio, cashew nuts, walnuts, and pecan to your diet. Have a tall glass of banana milkshake every morning for breakfast. Bananas really help to gain weight.

Contrary to popular belief, exercise is not meant for just losing weight. You need to exercise in order to gain weight as well. Exercise helps us to develop our muscles. If you start following a rich diet without doing any exercises, you will land up putting on 'unhealthy' weight as opposed to 'healthy' weight.

Your exercise could be in the form of doing weights in the gym, jogging, aerobics, or even some sport that you enjoy. Bottom line is, you need to exercise. Once again, this is a slow and steady process, so do not try to hurry it up.
