A sound diet is highly indispensable for women than men as women cope with a number of hormonal irregularities as compared to men, that can have an adverse effect on their health and as well as their weight. Healthy eating can help to relieve symptoms of hormonal irregularities and some particular foods such as fresh vegetables and fruits contain important phyto-nutrients and chemicals that can have beneficial effect on a woman's body. The quality of a daily diet has a massive impact on their health of women and by eating food from all the food groups can provide the body with the required nourishment needed for optimal functioning. By a healthy diet we mean, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables with around five servings in a day, whole-grain meals, low-fat and fat-free dairy products, lean meats and fish. By subscribing to a healthy diet, normal blood sugar and insulin levels are maintained as processed foods and sugary food products are thus abstained from being consumed.

It is important to note that in a healthy diet, one must not skip meals but rather eat small snacks several times during the day rather than just three large meals.

If you are a vegetarian, then certain vegan foods including fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes, nuts seeds and tofu can help to make up the proteins that are otherwise found in a meat based diet. According to various studies done throughout the world, research indicates that those on a vegan diet are much healthier and have lower incidence of blood pressure, diabetes and heart related disorders. A vegetarian fare is also enjoyable as a number of interesting options can be prepared out of cereals, olives, pasta, couscous etc. Women who are overweight stand an increase chance of disorders related to the heart, cancer, hypertension, gall bladder disorders, arthritis, respiratory disorders and type 2 diabetes. In order to achieve weight loss, one must reduce the intake of calories with regards to the daily calorie requirement. Consumption of calories more than the daily requirement is likely to result in excess weight and fat. It is highly recommended that women eat more fiber in order to lose weight. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day when consuming high fiber is extremely important.

It is a well-known fact that women who are under stress often resort to food as a comfort option. By choosing the right kind of foods and substituting comfort foods such as sugary substances or fried food products can help to regulate the weight. Sugary foods when consumed during high stress can increase the blood sugar levels and upset the hormonal balance. By choosing complex carbohydrates, one can ensure that a steady blood sugar level will be maintained in the body.
