To make the answer simple you just have to remeber that you take your carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, water and vitamins in proper proportion, more so they should be taken at regular interval, meaning that your meals should be rationationlly spaced out.

One thing to be well remembered that few things shold be taken in great moderation, like salt, fats, sugar and animal protein plus alcohol.

Information on Balanced Diet

There are six fundamental nutrient groups that must be needed by the body in suitable amounts.  These are carbohydrates which are a storehouse of source of energy, proteins that help the body in rebuilding wear and tear, lipids or fats that provides and essential fat soluble vitamins, vitamins needed in minute quantities for optimum health, mineral salts needed to build healthy teeth, bones, muscles etc. and fiber for proper functioning of the intestines. Water is the key ingredient binding all the above factors in a balanced diet. Metabolic responses in the body take place in an aqueous surrounding and water plays an important role as a solvent for essential molecules to dissolve in.

All the above elements must be taken in the right proportions. In practice eating a variety of foods in moderate amounts means having a variety of foods, basing meals on starchy foods and eating at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Dietary reference values (DRVs) constitute an array and calculated average of recommended daily consumption levels for men and women at different phases of their life.

Individual demands for foods alter depending upon elements such as the individual's age and sex. Other relevant factors that need to be taken into consideration include the size, the metabolic rate and the individual's occupation.
