Omega 3s For Burning Fats
Submitted by Loring A. Windblad on February 23, 2010
Omega 3 Fatty Acids For Weigth Reduction
Broadly there are two kinds of fat, one is referred to as the “good” fat and the other is referred to as the “bad” fat. In actuality there are four different kinds of fats, monosaturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, saturated fats and Tran’s fat. Monosaturated fats are believed to be the good fats as they help a person to reduce cholesterol, blood pressure and triglycerides. They also help in controlling diabetes.
These good fats are found in foods like peanut oil, olive oil, cashews, canola oil, peanuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, macadamia nuts, chicken fat and pine nuts.
Polyunsaturated fats are also said to be good fats and are known to help in the reduction of triglycerides, tumor growth and inflammations. They are also known to help in protecting against heart disease and the sudden death that can result from it, besides helping to improve a person’s immune function. There are two kinds of polyunsaturated fats, one is Omega 3 and the other is Omega 6.
Omega 3 can be found in food items like walnuts, canola oil, flaxseeds, salmon, hempseeds, mackerel, tuna, trout, herring and sardines.
A recent study was conducted where researched were attempting to find out if a person supplements their diet with good fat in the way of omega 3 fish oil, then it would lead to a rise in the fat calories that were burned per day. The results of the study were quite conclusive in that, those people who were supplementing their diets with fish oil showed results where they burned approximately 1.1 milligram of fat per kg.
This rate was about 26 percent greater than the numbers shown by the other group who did not supplement their diets with fish oil. One of the main reasons for omega 3 fish oil having such a significant effect on the fat metabolism is because of the insulin levels being almost 50 percent lower as compared to when the people used the omega 3 fish oil.
Insulin is that hormone which is said to lower the use of fat as a fuel, while at the same time it helps in promoting storage of fat. Insulin is known to raise the activity of the enzyme that is known to promote fat storage. Insulin also restricts the activity of what is referred to as hormone sensitive lipase. This is the main agent that breaks down fat that is stored and thus prepares it in turn for use as a form of energy.
It also converts carbohydrates into fat.
