Juice Fast Diet

 

A juice fast diet, as the name indicates, involves fasting with juice as the main food. It is a detoxification diet that aids in flushing off the metabolites, toxins and other drugs. Water, vegetable and fruit juices are consumed for a short period of time. Juices of fruits and vegetables are suppliers of minerals, phyto nutrients and vitamins. It is an extreme method of fasting, as no solid foods are included.



Juice fast is not recommended for individuals prior to surgery. Pregnant women, individuals on prescription medicines and individuals with renal diseases, diabetes, anaemia, nutritional deficiency, epilepsy, cancer, malnutrition, eating disorder, colitis and nutritional deficiency are not allowed to follow a juice diet. Individuals on prescription medicines are not recommended, as changes in blood protein levels are seen.

Diarrhea is one of the typical symptoms of juice fast. This results in dehydration and imbalance of electrolytes. Other symptoms include hypoglycaemia, headache, fatigue, bad breath, poor body odor, acne and constipation. Grapefruit is not recommended for those on juice fast. Weight loss, arrhythmia, dizziness, low blood pressure, diarrhea, kidney diseases, vomiting and hunger are the side effects of this diet.

A juice fasting diet typically runs for round three days. A longer fast requires medical attention. Juice fasting is recommended during the spring season. Certain foods, such as caffeine, sugar, nicotine, egg, fish, and meat, dairy, wheat, alcohol and dairy products are eliminated from the regular diet, a week prior to the commencement of the juice fast diet. Vegetables, beans and organic foods are preferred during this period. In case of non availability of organic fruits and vegetables, they are washed with a cleaner, which is not toxic.

Peeling of fruits and vegetables is also a good alternative. About six glasses of water is consumed, in addition to juices. Fresh juices of fruits and vegetables are preferred. Sprouts and green leafy vegetables contain chlorophyll that is helpful during a fast.
A slight lenience in the juice diet is the allowance for one meal which is healthy, devoid of junk foods. A fruit and vegetable combination is used while preparation of juice. The core or pits of cherries, peaches, apple, apricots, avocados and bananas are not included. The juice fast diet helps in cleansing the toxins from the body. It increases the supple of enzymes, minerals and vitamins. It boosts the immunity levels, thereby increasing the resistance to infection. All the wastes are eliminated. Vitality of the body increases with a juice fasting diet. It helps in rejuvenation and replenishment with all the necessary nutrients.
