Leptin Supplements

Leptin can be described as one of the most essential hormone regulators of energy in the body. It is the presence of this substance that suppresses the appetite in a person and therefore, it is excellent for those who want to lose weight. Not only does leptin reduce the amount of food consumed by a person, but it can also make a person more active in using up calories, while performing a task. Since this substance is produced by the fat cells, or the adipose cells, the amount of leptin in the body is directly proportional to the levels of fat. Hence, people who are on the heavier side are likely to have a higher level of leptin, as compared to those who have less body fat.
There are also certain foods that contain leptin, but they do not really help to increase the levels of leptin in the body. In some cases, people may be advised to add leptin supplements to their diets, for various reasons.

What is a leptin supplement?

Leptin supplements refer to those products that complement a diet, by adding a source of leptin to it. There are a few studies indicating the effectiveness of this supplement in weight loss. However, many health experts claim that the best way to lose weight and improve overall wellbeing is by following a healthy diet and by exercising regularly.

There is a lot of controversy surrounding the use of leptin supplements. Many health experts state that the leptin supplements or even leptin foods should be strictly avoided. This is because over a period of time, a high level of leptin in the blood can result i insensitivity. This in turn could cause the body to become less responsive to the supplement. The long term goal of a weight watcher should be to make the body more sensitive to leptin, so that a high metabolic rate can be maintained, along with a small appetite, even when the levels of leptin in the body fall. Moreover, as a person loses, weight, the levels of leptin in the body are bound to go down, due to the reduction of fat cells. If a person continues to take leptin supplements, which lead to a high level of leptin in the body, in spite of low fat content, their body could soon go into starvation mode. Therefore, it is important to consult a health care provider, before adding leptin supplements or increasing the consumption of high leptin foods.
