Food allergy is a condition in which the body mistakenly starts reacting to food as if it is a pathogen. A person suffering from this disease starts feeling allergic to any food as his insides are telling him to do so. There are many foods which people can be allergic to including certain fruits, vegetables, and meats. Some people are allergic even to milk, tree nut (walnut, cashew, egg), peanut, soy, fish, shellfish, and wheat.

The body’s chemical reactions affect the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular and respiratory system, and can cause skin allergies.

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EE) is a disease of the stomach in which the eosinophils, which are a type of white blood cells, are infiltrated. This disease is normally associated with food allergies. The treatment of food allergies is by the use of adrenaline hormone injections. However, it should only be used in severe cases, as it provides only temporary relief and is not a permanent medicinal solution to the disease.

The visible and most common symptoms of food allergies are:
  • A tingling feeling in the mouth.
  • The throat swells up.
  • Swelling of the tongue.
  • Breathing becomes heavy and uncomfortable.
  • Vomiting.
  • Cramps in the abdomen.
  • Diarrhea.
  • The blood pressure suddenly becomes low.
  • Loss of consciousness.
The symptoms may appear within hours of eating or may be observed after a few days time.

  • Those who are allergic to milk protein should avoid using dairy products that contain milk proteins.

  • Certain varieties of nuts may also bring on an allergy attack in some individuals.
  • Food allergy patients need to figure out which foods for they are allergic to, so that they can avoid consuming them.
