B-complex vitamins are all important to health.



This group includes B1 or thiamin, B2 or riboflavin, B3 or niacin, B4 or adenine, B6 or pyridoxine, B9 folic acid, B12 or cobalamin, biotin, pantothenic acid, choline and inositol. All B-complex vitamins are water soluble and play an important role in different bodily functions like mitochondrial energy metabolism, carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism, maintenance of healthy skin, liver hair, eyes and mouth. A deficiency of vitamin B can cause beriberi, degeneration of sex glands, digestive disturbances and neurological problems.



Common symptoms of deficiency include headaches, upset stomach, scaly skin, heart disease, anxiety and moodiness. An excess dose of vitamin B can also cause nervous damage.

 

Different B-complex vitamins play different roles in the body.



In general B-complex vitamins aid in digestion, improve body’s resistance to stress, promote a healthy skin and good muscle tone. B vitamins help to reduce the leg cramps, muscle spasms, hand numbness by regulating a normal blood pressure. B vitamins are extremely important in the metabolic functions happening in the human body which include detoxification, energy production, blood formation, Interco versions of one substance to another, nerve transmission, synthesis of proteins and fats, maintenance of blood sugar levels, maintenance of appetite, production of steroid hormones, and toning the muscles. B vitamins are also needed to combat the effects of stress, maintain healthy skin, hair, nails and red blood cells. They also help to bolster some glands (mainly adrenal gland) which when subjected to stress become easily exhausted. Vitamin B health is beneficial for antibody production, elasticity of body tissues and prevention of muscle spasm and cramps. B vitamins work hand in hand and a combination of all these vitamins can help against a range of ailments like depression, diabetes, alcoholism, stress, multiple sclerosis, hair problems and lupus.

 

As all the B complex vitamins are water soluble, they cannot be stored in the body. Thus it becomes essential to include them in the diet to fulfill their daily requirements.



They are mainly found in whole grains cereals and its products, liver, kidney, Brewer’s yeast, dairy products and green vegetables. A balanced meal shall suffice the need of all B-complex vitamins. Make sure to take all the B vitamins together as this group works effectively with each other when taken together. It is advisable to consult a specialist or a health care provider for correct recommendation and guidance before starting any supplements of B vitamins.
