Diabetic Diet Recipes

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder, accompanied by the increase in blood glucose levels.



Glucose spills in the urine in some cases. Insufficiency of insulin or improper usage of insulin from the pancreas results in diabetes mellitus. Diet plays a vital role in curbing the blood glucose increase. A number of diabetic diet recipes are recommended by experts and researchers.

A diabetic diet recipe is modified as per each individual’s requirements. There are no magic recipes that help in a drastic reduction of blood glucose levels.



Any diet that comprises of all the nutrients in a balanced manner is useful. There is no specific diabetic diet. Any therapeutic diet is a modification of the daily diet. Variety and sensibility are important while choosing the foods. Choice of the right kind of foods is important. A plant food in a diabetic diet recipe is useful.



Vegetable oils are used to season recipes. Minimal amounts are recommended. Use of non stick cookware helps in the restriction of oil in the diet.

Soups such as sweet corn, vegetable, mushroom and so on are helpful. Avoid the usage of corn flour in soups. Opt for clear soups, as they provide lesser calories. Salads with spinach, kidney beans, tofu, peppers, sirloin, beans, carrots, pears, apples, nuts, sprouts and herbs prove helpful in increasing the satiety levels. Diabetic diet recipes with high complex carbohydrates are helpful. Oatmeal provides soluble fiber and proves healthy with nuts and skimmed milk. Whole grains or cereals with skimmed milk or low fat milk are a good start for breakfast. Avoid salted and buttered dried fruits or nuts.

Wheat rolls, lasagne, spiced almonds, vegetables with a light vegetable sauce are a few other foods that are helpful in a diabetic diet. Regular exercise in conjunction with diet and medications help in bringing the blood glucose levels in a rapid manner. Alcohol and smoking are abstained from. Carbonated beverages or fizzy drinks are omitted from any recipe. They fail to provide any nutrient and contribute to calories alone, also referred to as ‘empty calories’. Animal foods such as fish are not deep fried in recipes. Opt for baking or boiling as is suggested in 1800 calorie diabetic diet.

Meat and poultry are grilled, as this helps in dripping of the excess fats.



Poultry are consumed, after the removal of the skin. Salads of seasonal fruits should replace the usual desserts of soufflés, pastries and cakes. Exchange system helps in choosing different foods with the same nutritive value. It helps in adding variety to the diet. Careful cooking and wise choices help in preparation of good and healthy diabetic diet recipes.
