GarlicGarlic can be described as a white bulb with a papery covering which conceals several white bulbs inside.
Garlic is well known all over the world for its pungent smell and spicy taste. Garlic was used to ward off evil as well as vampires in olden times. Garlic has been recognized as one of the very good herb that has prevention and healing capability.
Garlic is rich in vitamin C helping body as an anti-oxidant.

Garlic contains another anti-oxidizing agent called selenium; this agent does not help only in prevention of cardiovascular diseases but also works along with Vitamin E, and helps in defending the fat soluble areas from oxidizing. Thus, Vitamin C and selenium combine together to give overall body a protection from the harmful oxidization.
Selenium in garlic is also known to provide cancer protection and also again heavy metal toxicity.
Garlic is a major source of anti-oxidizing agents. Garlic is also known to be anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and antibacterial.
The anti-inflammatory qualities of garlic come because it has compounds similar to onions. These compounds control enzymes lipoxycenase and cyclooxygenase, that give inflammation. Therefore garlic works as an anti inflammatory food.
Garlic gets its pungent smell from a compound called allicin, garlic when crushed gives out this compound. Allicin is known to be the antiviral and antibacterial agent in garlic. Allicin joins forces with Vitamin C and kills harmful microbes.
Garlic is available in two forms in market, one is garlic powder and another one is fresh garlic. Garlic is expensive herb and is available in almost all markets all over the world, if you want to store garlic you can wrap it in an airtight bag and store it in a refrigerator for more than a month. Ensure that the garlic remains dry.
If you want to benefit the most from garlic, it is better to use fresh garlic.
Crushed garlic gives out the pungent smell and also helps formation of allicin, which happens to be the most beneficial hormone in garlic. You can use garlic in stews, soups, salads, etc. For the best aroma mildly sautéing garlic will give excellent aroma as well as good taste to the food.
