A liquid diet is one such dietary plan that enables an individual to stay healthy and protects from many ailments. A liquid diet involves the intake of liquid food only. A liquid diet can be of two types, an all clear liquid diet and a full liquid diet. A liquid diet is also prescribed by doctors for those individuals who are about to undergo certain medical procedures involving the stomach or colon. These tests require the digestive system to be free of any food particles so that the doctor can examine the inside of the organs for abnormalities. Therefore a liquid diet enables the individual to cleanse the colon and stomach and also receive important nutrients. A liquid diet recipe may also be recommended in cases where an individual is experiencing vomiting and diarrhea due to digestive problems. Those who have difficulty in swallowing or chewing food may also be advised to follow a liquid diet for some time.

A clear liquid diet is usually prescribed for those who have undergone abdominal surgery. Since the individual must fast before and after surgery, the gastrointestinal system must be slowly eased into digesting food again. This can be done effectively through a clear liquid diet. A full liquid diet is the next step after a clear liquid diet. It slowly re-introduces the individual to solid foods. In this diet, liquids containing milk or soy products may be consumed. There are many full liquid diet ideas since the range of foods that may be consumed is wider. Some foods that can be incorporated into a liquid diet  include honey, fruit and vegetable juice without any pulp, jelly, clear soups, milkshakes, lemonade, fruit puree and gelatin desserts. A clear liquid diet recipe must not contain any chunks of meat, vegetables or any other solids. Abundant consumption of water also forms an important part of a liquid diet. A full liquid diet recipe can contain a wider variety of foods. There are many benefits of a liquid diet. Nutrients are easily absorbed due to the quick digestion of liquids. Liquids also help to flush out toxins from the body.

A liquid diet plan should be formulated in a manner that will ensure steady supply of nutrients to the body. A healthy liquid diet breakfast may include milk or fresh fruit juice. Lunch and dinner may consist of a bowl of chicken broth or meat soup. In between meals, you can also snack on vegetable juices. Milkshakes made with skim milk and smooth ice creams may also be consumed during the day. A nutritious juice diet recipe is vegetable juice combo made with half a beetroot, a couple of sprigs of water cress, three carrots, two Swiss chard leaves and a celery stalk. Wash the vegetables thoroughly cut and then add to a juicer. Another beneficial liquid diet recipe is cabbage soup. First sauté some chopped tomato in a pan and then add chopped cabbage, onions, beans and carrots. Add some green peppers, balsamic vinegar, celery and fresh herbs and stir well. Pour some water in and allow it to come to cook for one hour. While it simmers, add salt to taste. Then strain the soup and serve.
