In order to maintain the proper functioning of the heart, you must consume a diet which is heart friendly.

The major risk factors that may lead to cardiac ailments are:
  • Excessive level of cholesterol in the body
  • High blood pressure
  • Excessive smoking and consumption of alcohol
  • Lack of physical activity.
  • Out of the above four causes of heart diseases, the first three risk factors can be controlled by the intake of a regulated diet or a heart friendly diet.

Tips For Healthy Heart Diets For Cardiac Ailments

The specifics of a heart friendly diet are as follows:
  • You must consume a healthy diet so as to regulate the cholesterol levels in your body.



    Excessive cholesterol may lead to a thickening of the arteries, or arteriosclerosis, which is a major heart ailment. You must consume foods with low cholesterol and fat content.
  • As such, you must not eat red meat. Instead, you may substitute red meat with foods like chicken and turkey.
  • You must also keep a check on the intake of dairy products in your diet. You should replace whole milk and milk products with skimmed and low fat milk products.
  • You should replace the intake of saturated fats in your diet with unsaturated fats because saturated fats are high in cholesterol and as such, raise your susceptibility to coronary ailments.
  • You must include a lot of fruits and vegetables in your diet. These foods are low or nil in cholesterol and fat content.



    Also, fruits and vegetables may serve as negative calorie foods, thereby reducing the cholesterol level of your body.
  • Fruits and vegetables are rich in minerals and as such, help in sustaining the electrolytic content of blood.
  • Some of the fruits and vegetables that you must consume as a part of healthy heart diet are cauliflower, asparagus, citrus fruits, broccoli, peas, beans, water melon, mango, strawberry, turnip, beet, honey dew, and many more.
  • Try to consume whole grain cereals over refined cereals.
  • You must cut down on the intake of complex sugar in your diet.
  • You must consume a lot of water as water maintains the balance of electrolytes in the blood and also dissolves excessive fats and cholesterol.    
  • You must not consume alcohol. Smoking is also prohibited as a part of healthy heart diet.
  • Also, you must follow a regular workout schedule to keep active and stay fit.
