Lyme Treatment

Lyme disease is a tick borne borreliosis which needs regular lyme treatment.

It is caused by the bacteria that have been transmitted by the deer ticks. This disease can affect the skin, nervous system, heart and joints of the individuals.

Lyme disease can affect people of any age but individuals who spend longer time in grassy and woody environment are at risk. The deer ticks are present as young deer ticks and adult deer ticks.

The young deer tick is also called as a nymph that is the size of a poppy seed. The adult ticks are present in the size of a sesame seed. Ticks can transmit a disease to an individual only if it remains attached for a longer period of time; say up to 36 hours for which lyme disease treatment needs to be done.

However this disease is not transmitted from one person to another.

The symptoms starts with a rash on the site of the tick bite which can grow larger if the treatment for lyme disease is not given fast. If left untreated the person will have headaches, fever, chills, and weakness. If allowed to grow further, this infection can affect the joints, brain and nervous system leading to swelling of the joints, numbness in the hands, poor memory and poor concentration. These symptoms may occur for 3 weeks to 1 month after the tick bite.

Treating lyme disease involve certain precautions which can be carried out for people living in tick infested areas. These include:

  1. Wear light colored clothes for easy discovery of the ticks.
  2. Tuck your pants into the socks or your shirt into the pant while walking outside.
  3. While doing outdoor activity, check for ticks on clothes and skin after every 3 to 4 hours.
  4. Brush off if you find any ticks on the skin to avoid them from attaching to the skin.
  5. Check your clothes and skin regularly at the end of the day.
  6. Repellants can be applied on the skin to prevent tick bites. But this needs to be carefully observed with care taken to find out about repellent toxicity and intensity.

In spite of all the precautions, there is a possibility of getting infected by tick bite. In such cases the following care can be taken as:

  1. Symptoms take time to heal even if the treatment has started. Just be patient enough for the rashes and other symptoms to heal.
  2. In case of muscle and aching joints, heat can be applied to relieve the pain. Apply a towel dipped and wrung in hot water on the affected area.

This application can be done frequently .
  3. For body pain, a hot moist room can be beneficial in relieving the aches for lyme disease cure.
  4. Join any support group to help the person to alleviate fear and depression. It will help the individual to understand how to tackle this problem and gain a positive outlook.

Thus with the help of antibiotic medication and doctor's advice, a person can heal from this disease. However it is necessary to detect the symptoms early so that lyme disease treatment can be provided as soon as possible.

Diet can also play an important role to treat lyme disease. The various dietary recommendations are:

  1. Have light nutritious food which is low in fat as it can be easily digestible in the body.
  2. Vitamins and minerals are necessary for the regulation of metabolism in the body. Supplements of beta carotene, B complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Calcium, potassium and magnesium can help in improving the health of the individual.
  3. Avoid alcohol, smoking and caffeine.

Thus proper care, antibiotics and good diet can make a person healthy again.
