It is thus necessary to adhere to a good diet plan and physical fitness regime to keep the system clear of all impurities: Diet for Eczema:It is ideal to initiate the diet plan with a fast on orange juice and water from five to ten days, depending on the severity and duration of the trouble. Juice fasting will help eliminate toxic waste from the body and lead to substantial improvement. In some cases, the condition may worsen in the beginning of the fast due to the increased elimination of waste matter through the skin. But as fasting continues, improvement will start showing. Fruits, 'raw 'or steamed vegetables without salt, served with whole meal bread may be taken after the juice fast. It is advisable to use coconut oil instead of other edible oils. After a few days, curd and milk may be added to the diet.
Carrot and musk melon are particularly beneficial. One can then gradually progress to a well balanced diet of three basic food groups namely: seeds, nuts and grains, vegetables and fruits. A large proportion of the diet should consist of raw foods. Seeds and beans such as alfalfa, soybeans can be sprouted. This diet may be supplemented with-pressed vegetable oils, honey and yeast. It is suggested that a juice fast repeated at intervals of two months or so, depending on the progress being made could prove beneficial.
In chronic and more difficult cases of eczema, the patient should fast at least once a week till he is cured. Here is a short list of food items one need to stay away from and this includes tea, coffee, alcoholic beverages and all condiments and spicy dishes. One should also steer clear of foods with sugar, white-flour products, denaturant cereals like polished rice and pearled barley and tinned or bottled foods. One should eat only pure and wholesome foods.
Natural Remedies for eczema:Raw vegetable juices, especially carrot juice in combination with spinach juice, have proved highly beneficial in the treatment of eczema. The proportions considered helpful in this combination are carrot ten ounces and spinach six ounces to make sixteen ounces or one pint of juice. Coconut oil may be applied to the portions with eczema. It will help the skin to stay soft. Walking or jogging should be resorted to in order to activate the bowels. Sunbathing is also beneficial as it kills the harmful bacteria and should be resorted to early in the morning, in the first light of dawn. A light mudpack applied over the sites of the eczema is also helpful. The pack should be applied for an hour at a time. It can be repeated twice or thrice a day. Eczema as a result of dyspepsia, gout or diabetes can be cured only after these diseases have been successfully treated. Children suffering from eczema due to unsanitary bottle feeds can get relief if kept on fruit juices or water with a teaspoon of honey added.
Other Preventive Measures:
Getting as much fresh air as possible is of utmost importance. Avoid restrictive clothing; it may worsen the skin condition. Two or three litres of water should be taken daily. Bath at least twice or thrice a day. The skin, with the exception of the parts affected with eczema, should be vigorously rubbed with the palms of the hands before taking a bath.
TREATMENT CHART FOR ECZEMA Here is simple ready reckoner that one can keep handy to stick to a beneficial diet plan that will help you combat the harmful effects of eczema.
Diet: Step 1:
Raw juice diet for three to five days. A glass of fresh fruit or vegetable juice should be taken every two hours from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. and the bowels should be cleansed daily through warm water enema during this period.
Step 2:
An all-fruit diet for further three to five days. In this regimen, take three meals a day of fresh juicy fruits at five-hourly intervals. Step 3:
After the all-fruit diet, have a restricted diet consisting of mainly fruits. Salt-free, raw or steamed vegetables with whole meal bread may also be taken for about seven days. Step 4:
Thereafter. A balanced diet on the following lines may be adopted:- Start the day with a glass of lukewarm water with half a freshly squeezed lime and a teaspoon of honey. Have fresh fruits, a handful of raw nuts and a glass of milk for breakfast. Lunch may comprise of a bowl of freshly prepared steamed vegetables, one or two whole wheat breads and a glass of buttermilk. A glass of fresh fruit or vegetable juice can keep hunger pangs at bay during mid noon. Dinner may comprise of a large bowl of fresh green vegetable salad with lemon juice dressing, sprouts and cottage cheese or a glass of buttermilk.
Step 5: It is advisable to avoid: Tea, coffee, alcoholic beverages, meat, condiments, spicy dishes, sugar, white flour and all products made from them and denatured cereals.
Other Preventive Measures:
Sunbath everyday early morning and fresh air as much as possible. Mud pack over the area affected by eczema for one hour twice daily. Cold compress or cold wet fomentations in case of acute eczema and hot compresses or hot fomentations in case of chronic eczema.
