Harmful Substances / Habits

If you live by the sword, you die by the sword.  This is fair warning for those who continue to indulge in harmful substances/habits.   Excessive intake of alcohol, tobacco, smoking, and drug use claim thousands of lives everyday.  Breaking the habit is a fierce struggle.  Many have tried to quit.  Some have failed and others succeeded.  Yet many more continue to seesaw.

Dependence on alcohol and tobacco are classified as drug addiction.  The tar in cigarettes causes lung cancer and the carbon monoxide in smoke increase the risk of heart attacks.   Alcohol damages the liver and other vital organs of the body.    Drug use has seen the destruction of young lives, families, and careers.

Alcohol addiction is a blot that cuts across sectors of society.  As dependence increases, an alcoholic takes in larger quantities everyday.  There is no end in sight.  Smokers promise to quit every night before they sleep.  Tobacco chomping machos also suffer the same agonies.   The urge to use these harmful substances is so compelling they cannot quit.  Breaking the habit is impossible.  In all of these cases, professional help would be a big advantage.

Desperate people think that quitting smoking, alcohol, and tobacco is difficult.  It is expected.  They have resorted to several gimmicks without any success.   They deceive themselves into believing that they can stop tomorrow.  The first thing do is seeking help.

There are several smoking cessation programs and alcohol rehabilitation centers advertised on the net.

There are many options to choose from.  You could use nicotine patches, or get tips from streaming online.  These options have eliminated the fuss of going to “classes”.  One can do the routine at hope and learn the regimen to break the habit.     One can get free programs on line.  There are neither forms to fill up nor fees to pay.

Several cessation strategies include visualization, deep relaxation, positive substation, deep breathing, and other proven helpful techniques.  Behavior modification is incorporated into the program.  How to break the habit programs can be ordered on line.  You can get an MP3 CD for a nominal fee.
However, people with drug abuse, smoking and alcohol problems cannot quit on their own.  They need to undergo behavioral therapy or psychotherapy.  These treatment strategies will help them cope with their cravings and prevent relapse.   If a relapse does occur, they are guided along.  Rate of recovery may vary.  So seek help now.  Free yourself from harmful substances/habits.
