Healthy Diet

“Health is wealth” is a saying that we have all heard, possibly one time too many. We sometimes forget how true this cliché really is: only if we are healthy we can perform our day to day tasks with ease. Good health is a prerequisite for a healthy and successful life. Apart from regular exercise, it is important for an individual to maintain a healthy diet to ensure that he leads a life free of ailments and risks. A healthy diet ensures that we have the right intake of all the crucial vitamins, mineral, fibers and proteins from our food, thus promoting superior health, boosting energy levels and strengthening the memory and brain function.

A healthy diet also helps to reduce weight and increase stamina.

Dieting does not mean depriving your body of food; on the contrary dieting means to eat smart. The best way to learn to eat smart is by preparing a healthy diet plan. Formulate a diet plan consisting of well rounded, healthy meals, particularly plenty of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables of deeper and brighter colors are said to be dense in nutrition and low in calories. Make fruits and vegetables your primary choice of snacks as the nutrients and antioxidants in them help fight against cancer and other diseases. To this diet plan supplement healthy meals of smaller proportions that are to be taken through the day as compared to the customary large meals. Include healthy foods which are high in fiber and carbohydrates, such as whole grains for energy. Scientific studies show that people who consume more whole grain have the tendency to have a healthy heart.

Healthy foods such as dairy products and green leafy vegetables have a high content of vitamin D and calcium which keep our bones strong. Avoid foods rich in saturated fats and trans fats like red meat, hydrogenated vegetable oil, candies, and so on. Water should be consumed at regular intervals, as it flushes the harmful toxins and waste products out of our system. Limit your intake of salt, sugar, and aerated drinks as these provide calories but no nutritional value.

Especially if you have health problems and are out of shape, a dietician should be consulted before you start. He or she will make a personalized diet plan taking into consideration your gender, age, nutritional status, physical activity, and so on. If a diet plan is followed strictly with regular exercise, before you know it you will be leading a healthy life with a balanced diet.
