Sinus Infection: Symptoms, Treatment And Sinus Cure

Sinusitis is a very common disease that affects millions of Americans every year.

Your sinus or sinus cavities are hollow spaces in your facial bones. When these spaces, filled with air, get infected, it is known as sinusitis. It is unclear exactly what these hollow spaces do, but experts believe that their functions include providing frontal protection to the face and warming up and filtering the air that we breathe. The sinuses, which all open into the nasal cavity, also produce mucus.

Sinusitis usually begins as a common cold (flu) or some other infection that affects the respiratory system.

The sinuses, instead of being full of air, may get filled with mucus, allowing bacteria to grow. Most of these bacteria already exist in the body, and are kept in check by the immune system. But, with the weakening of the body’s defenses, they multiply much faster, leading to an infection.

The infection can be of three different kinds: acute, chronic, and recurrent. An acute attack usually lasts around two to three weeks. The chronic kind lasts much longer, and can persist for many weeks to years.

Recurrent sinusitis will strike many times a year.

Sinus Congestion: Symptoms And Treatment For Sinus Remedy

Symptoms: While the infection may start as a cold, the symptoms can be very different. The primary symptoms are a pain in the frontal area of the face, congestion or a frontal headache. The pain will depend on which of the sinuses are affected, and may vary from feeling like a toothache in the upper jaw, hurting temples, or pain under the eyes. Sometimes, sinusitis can cause severe headaches, especially if the sinuses between the eyes are inflamed. You may also find pus coming out of the nose.

Treatment: Your doctor will have to treat two things- the infection of the sinuses and the original blockage that caused it. Antibiotics will treat the infection, while decongestants will clear out the blockage. Remember to follow your doctor’s prescription and instructions to a trainer. In very severe cases, surgery may also be an option.

Diet For Sinusitis: As with any other illness, it’s important to have a well balanced diet when you’re suffering from sinusitis. You need to nourish your body and strengthen your immune system to fight the bacteria. First of all, stay away from all kinds of junk food. You may crave them during an illness, but they will make recovery much slower. Stick to whole foods that have been freshly prepared.

Your meals should contain many servings of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Eat plenty of green leafy veggies that contain antioxidants to fight the infection.

Ideally, you should stay away from milk products and starchy foods like macaroni and pasta. Also, avoid very spicy foods. Try and avoid all dairy products, but a glass or two of milk will give you the required dosage of calcium. You can also mix turmeric into your milk to fight off the bacteria. You can get vitamins from vegetables such as carrots or beets.

In the worst stages of the disease, stick to a liquid diet. Fruit juices such as the juice of carrot, beet, cucumber, and spinach will give you your daily requirement of vitamins.
