Foods For Picnic - Snacks And Salads Diet For Picnic

Planning for an outdoor event or a picnic is either exciting as well as a bit of a challenge. There are a host of things to be organized; and finding the time to prepare snacks for the picnic can be quite a task. For a really quick and easy picnic food idea, good old sandwiches or wraps are a surefire hit every time. Filled bagels are another picnic food idea that finds favor with everybody. For a lovely outdoor meal you can also throw in a salad or two with some good bread.

Remember to prepare such salads that can be easily mixed or tossed before you leave for home. One such salad is the Italian salad that works as a meal as part of an outdoor feast.

Interesting Picnic Ideas

Some other interesting ideas include sausage rolls made from picnic ham, lean chicken breast, hard-cooked egg encased in sausage meat then breaded and grilled, tortilla, savory pastries and pies.
  • To add a bit of crunch, you can pack small bite-size pieces of vegetables such as carrots, baby vegetable marrows, slices of red, yellow and green peppers, young shoots of the asparagus tips, celery sticks, radishes, cucumbers, small red and yellow cherry tomatoes along with a healthy dip.

  • To satisfy your sweet tooth, you can add healthy outdoor deserts such as coffee cake with walnuts, banana bread, fruit cake or oat pancakes.
  • Remember to carry plenty of water as being outdoors can lead to rapid dehydration. Soft drinks also work out well, but restrict the usage of overtly sweetened beverages as these can cause further dehydration.
  • Some people believe that packing for a picnic is one of the best ways to control their food intake and following a few tips can go a long way in preventing binging:
  • Make sandwiches from low fat fills such as lean chicken, ham or beef, egg whites, prawns or tuna and sardines canned in brine or water. Leave off the cheese and mayo-filled dressings and give way to leaner low fat dressings.

  • Instead of puff and pastry products such as pork pies, quiche, turnovers and pastry filled with fruit or custard opt for bite-sized portions made from vegetable pizza or grilled chicken fingers.
  • Pack as much fruit as possible including melons, strawberries, raspberries, green and black grapes, apricots, peaches, oranges, sweet limes and peaches.
  • Try not to pack chocolate bars as these are likely to melt outdoors and are also high in calories.
