Safe Pregnancy Diet For Healthy PregnancyA proper and healthy diet plan is a very important factor for a pregnant woman as she would have to eat not only for her health but also for the nourishment of the child.
The dietary plan of pregnant women should be closely watched and observed, and it should include rich, wholesome food instead of junk food. The diet should also be supplemented with good vitamins and minerals to provide sufficient nutrients to the coming new born.
Although pregnancy nutrients, extra vitamins, minerals, and calcium supplements can be added to the diet as needed, they are advised to be first prescribed by the doctor as some of the supplements may be harmful to the pregnant woman or the unborn child.
Pregnancy Diet And Pregnancy Diet SupplementsSupplements to be added to pregnancy diet: Some of the important supplements that should be added to the daily diet plan of a pregnant woman are as follows:
Prenatal Vitamin Supplements: Due to the extra nutritional needs of pregnant women, prenatal vitamin supplements can be used as they constitute relatively higher levels of vitamins and minerals as compared to the normal vitamins. They also contain higher levels of folic acid and iron in them.
However, these should be used with caution and only those supplements meant for pregnancy should be used by pregnant women. Regardless, a doctor should be consulted about the use and dosage of these supplements.
Folic Acid: Folic acid is a vitamin that belongs to the family of B complex. It is soluble in water and is necessary for the formation of red blood cells; it also plays a vital role in embryonic development. So, folic acid supplements should be taken before and during pregnancy.
Omega-3: Omega-3 fatty acids are the building blocks for a healthy brain and body of the unborn baby. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in tofu, flaxseed, canola, wax seed, and walnuts. While fish oil is also thought to be good source of Omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil affects the clotting ability of the blood; therefore, it should not be used without consulting the doctor.
Herbal Supplements: Herbal supplements are preferred for the treatment of many diseases; however, they should be used with caution as they can be harmful or toxic to the unborn child.
Nevertheless, herbal supplements taken as tea or flavoring agent are safe to use, but should be avoided in excess.
Diet for pregnancy other than supplements:
