Weight Loss Foods

There are many foods that are called weight loss foods. However, in reality, there are no foods which can help you lose weight alone. Food alone can never really help you lose weight. In fact, you have to also perform exercises along with consuming a healthy diet full of low calorie foods. There is a simple calculation for weight loss.

If you want to lose weight, you have to create a calorie deficit. This means that you should ideally expend more calories than you consume.

For each healthy person, there is a pre-determined amount of calories that are required for the body to function normally and to carry out the daily functions. Weight loss is actually the result of the energy consumed from various different foods that are contained in the diet. The total energy of the foods accounts for the energy that is utilized and stored in the body. There may be some foods in the diet which are dense in energy and there are others, which are low calorie. However, when taken together in a meal, the foods may have different effects on the body.

For actual weight loss to happen, it is important that the total energy in the diet should be less than what your body requires. There are some foods which are better than others. While most foods give energy, there are some which require the body to work extra hard in order to digest them. To digest these foods, the body expends more energy than what the food actually contributes. These foods are therefore known as negative calorie foods. Most of these foods find their way to weight loss recipes. These foods are typically those which have high amounts of fiber, low fat, low protein, and low carbohydrates. A typical example of a negative calorie food is gourd.

Though there is much talk about these negative calorie foods, there is not much scientific data backing this theory. Still there are many dieticians who believe that these negative calorie foods are the best for losing weight. Fruits and vegetables are also considered excellent for weight loss because they have fewer amounts of calories, but offer high amounts of fiber, making them excellent for expending energy without piling on extra calories. Fresh fruits are also packed with enzymes and other nutrients, which can help the body fight disease and build immunity and endurance. Fresh fruits, therefore, make for excellent weight loss snacks. When you are hungry between meals, instead of eating a calorie packed meal, it is best to consume fruits which will not pile on any excessive calories.

Other healthy foods include those which are extremely low in energy and can be used to replace high calorie foods. You can easily make your diet healthier by replacing some of the common ingredients. For instance, instead of mayonnaise for your chip dips and salad dressing, you can use hung curd. Replace cooking fat with olive oil and your normal sodas with diet soda. Reduce the amount of butter and cheese that you use in your food. Instead of cheddar cheese, you can use cottage cheese, which has fewer calories and is also healthier.

There are some foods which are nutritionally dense and can help increase your energy levels. Foods dense in vitamin B are also excellent for improving endurance. These foods can also help give a person an increased desire to exercise.

Most dieticians and clinicians, who offer weight loss tips, stress the need for having both an exercise regime as well as a healthy diet with a mix of low calorie, high calorie, and negative calorie foods.
