Lose Weight With Good Carbs

People who ate high fiber, whole-grain breads and cereals were less likely to gain weight because they experience a full feeling quite early, it lasts for long and burns more calories during digestion.

Good carbohydrates that are converted into glucose are processed slowly in the intestinal tract.



As a result the fat cells are not filled with extra sugar and so excess weight cannot be gained.



Good carbohydrates are usually of plant origin that are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other plant nutrients and when these are combined with low-fat, low-calorie foods they help in reducing weight.

The below mentioned foods rich in carbohydrates have low glycemic index and can be labeled as good carbohydrates –
  1. Beans and legumes are rich sources of fiber, vitamins, proteins, minerals and nutrients.
  2. Excluding white potatoes and corn, most vegetables are good carbs.
  3. Most fruits with their skin intact are good.



    But grapes and watermelon are high in sugar and should be eaten moderately. Fruit juices contain very little actual fruit, and have high levels of sugar and should be avoided.
  4. Nuts are called good fats and are mono-saturated. They are excellent sources of fiber, protein, vitamin D, magnesium, potassium, folic acid and copper.



    Raw nuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and are known to prevent cancer and reduce risk of heart disease and stroke.
  5. Whole Grains –
  • Brown long-grain rice is broken down and absorbed slowly and has a low glycemic index.
  • Cold cereals and oatmeal’s are good choices. The package should show a sugar count lower than 10-12gms (under 8gms is very good) and fiber count should be at-least 4-5gms per serving. Whole-grain cereals that contain bran are usually rich in fiber.
  • Many variants of whole-wheat pastas such as noodles, spaghetti and vermicelli available can be used.
  • Whole-grain breads where the label shows first ingredient as “whole grain flour” should be used. Those that contain bran are especially good.
