Cancer diet
In the demanding world we live in today, it is absolutely essential to be healthy in both body and mind. Much to our dismay, however careful we are; there still are some diseases that are inevitable and cancer seems to head this list. On a basic level, cancer is termed as the uncontrolled growth and division of a certain body tissue, so forming a tumor. It is most common in people aging between 40 and 60 years and is neither hereditary nor caused by pathogens. There are several agents that are known to cause this disease in man, namely ionization radiations like X rays and UV rays, oncoviruses, parasites like Schistosoma Haemobium and many more. However, the more trivial causes are addictions like alcoholism, smoking and chewing of tobacco; not to forget several dietary factors like eating certain kinds of foods and following a diet that contains large amounts of red meat. On a more optimistic note, science and technology have progressed and there are now several ways to treat and eliminate this disease as long as the patient receives timely treatment. For the common man, there is an array of cancer diets available and most of these therapies mainly constitute a vegetarian course, which involve the consumption of food that is raw, sugar-free and low in salt and also the use of vegetable and fruit and high doses of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. Some of these diets that are available to be followed are The Bristol Diet, the Gerson Diet and the ‘Megavitamin’ Therapy which involves the use of vitamins A, C and E for cancer treatment. The Bristol’s diet, for example, insists on consuming fresh fruits and vegetables, whole foods, organic fish, eggs, poultry and raw cereal. Foods such as cheese, milk, yogurt, red meat, sugar, salt, caffeine and so on are to be strictly avoided.
Once cancer strikes, the next painful process is chemotherapy - a whole-body attack on dispersed cancer cells. The infamous side effects are due to the destruction of healthy cells along with the dangerous ones. While many new drugs target cancer more accurately, and thus avoid the collateral damage of killing healthy cells, the side effects of some types of cancer treatments are unavoidable. There are several chemo diets available for such patients. The most common ones are our daily products like milk and yoghurt which are well tolerated. Food which does not have strong smells and aromas and contains only the minimal amount of spice and salt is also good. Cancer Prevention Diets are being adopted more and more now-a-days. It basically consists of a well balanced meal, but is very low on the more carcinogenic foods like beef, smoked foods, high carbohydrates such as potatoes and so on. These are small steps, but will definitely prove to be worth the effort. The infamous Anti Cancer Diet is another great one to follow to reduce cancer risk. It most basically involves eating less total fat, increasing fiber intake and switching from red meat to sea food. You can increase the amount fiber in your diet by eating brown rice instead of white rice, consuming fresh fruits such as apples, bananas and pears, a baked potato, fresh carrots, bell peppers or celery. If you want to have a dessert, opt for fruits rather than a heavy and rich dessert. Today, dieticians all over the world have ingeniously designed perfect cancer diets, some recipes of which are extremely easy to prepare and light on the body. No matter what diet you plan to go on, keep your doctors informed about the same and take their advice. With all these tips in mind, preventing the occurrence of a deadly disease like cancer does not seem quite so tough.
